Jarrold and Priscilla Bacon Hospice partner to encourage clothing donations in Norfolk

Jarrold and Priscilla Bacon Hospice are working together to promote clothing donations and help the local charity to raise the final £2.5 million of the £12.5 million fundraising target. These funds will help to build the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge, a hospice providing specialist care to patients with chronic or terminal illnesses and also support to their families.

The Wear-Share-Care initiative will encourage people to donate quality clothing which they may no longer wear. It is hoped that the donated clothes, which will supply the Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity shops across Norfolk, will be recycled and reused in someone else’s wardrobe.

“We are delighted to be supporting the Priscilla Bacon Hospice Charity with the Wear-Share-Care project. It will be fantastic as they move towards their target to help build the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge,” states Jarrold Managing Director John Adams. “There is also an increased awareness and understanding about the effects of fashion waste and here at Jarrold, we understand the value in making purposeful, quality fashion choices.”

All you have to do is bring your coat, dress, top etc. into the London Street department store and give it to a member of the Jarrold team. Marked donation boxes will be located in Fashion Accessories and Menswear on the Ground Floor and Women’s Fashion on the first floor. As a thank you, people who donate will have the opportunity to take part in a prize draw for the chance to win £200 Jarrold gift card. The donated clothing will then go on to be sold at one of the Priscilla Bacon Hospice charity shops or recycled with nothing going to landfill.

Hugo Stevenson, Head of Operations and Fundraising said: “We are thrilled to be working with Jarrold again on this exciting Wear-Share-Care project. Every year in the UK, over 200,000 tons of textiles are thrown away. With this joint initiative, donated clothes will be given a new lease of life, which will not only benefit the hospice fundraising appeal, but will also benefit the environment. We are also very grateful to Jarrold for their offer of cash donations to the Charity for each donated garment, which will help us turn the dream of the new hospice into a reality.”

The fundraising campaign to build the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge was launched in February 2019, and it will replace the existing Priscilla Bacon Lodge at the Colman Hospital. Over £10 million has been raised for the new specialist hospice, which will have capacity for 24 inpatient beds and an enhanced outpatient unit.

The need for the new Priscilla Bacon Lodge has never been greater and an 18-month building campaign has commenced, that will enable the first patients to be welcomed into the new facility in the summer of 2023. The fundraising appeal remains ongoing while the building work takes place, with £2.5 million of the £12.5 million target left to raise.
