foodie fortnight at the Jarrold Food Hall

This September, Jarrold is celebrating food and the people behind the great products on offer in their newly-renovated Food Hall Food Hall.

Bringing together a packed programme of expert demonstrations, culinary experiences and one-of-a-kind masterclasses, Foodie Fortnight will be a chance for people to be inspired and acquire new gastronomic skills.

The two-week line-up of events, from 19 September 2022, will be an opportunity to discover the newly renovated Jarrold Food Hall. Showcasing an eclectic range of food and drink from the local area and beyond as well as Jarrold Own Brand which was released in 2019, the Lower Ground Floor in the iconic department store seeks to quickly establish itself as a foodie destination.

With local partners and producers including Chef Richard Bainbridge and Farmyard, Jarrold Food Hall will be the place to discover a scrumptious selection of staples and surprises. “We have worked with a number of food producers, some local, some national and even some international, in the curation of Foodie Fortnight who have been so supportive through the continued development of our Food Hall,” says John Adams, Managing Director. “We hope that both the Food Hall and the events are a celebration of our love of food and the joy it provides in bringing people together as well as great opportunity to visit our store.”

When you are not in the mood to put on the spread yourself, the Food Hall will be the place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and early dinner, as well as all-day beverages and a selection of light dishes and nibbles. Visitors will be spoilt for choice with hand crafted pizza and pasta in the Exchange Restaurant; offered an extensive range of wines, cocktails, and appetising accompaniments at the Wine Bar; or uniquely blended coffee alongside homemade cakes at the revamped Coffee Bar.

Dedicated to the artisanal and handmade, the specially equipped Cheese Room will present an aged-to-perfection array of local as well as cheese from further afield. Knowledgeable experts will be on hand to help you curate your perfect cheeseboard and they will then cut exactly what you need and wrap your choice to take home.

The Foodie Fortnight programme will give you the opportunity to meet the producers, artisans, and experts behind the best quality products on offer as well as sample, taste and try food to refresh your kitchen cupboards and dining table. And what is good feasting without the perfectly partnered beverage? There will also be masterclasses on wine, cocktails and other drinks which will guide you through pairing and mixing to raise your glasses with confidence.

Through the reigns of nine monarchs, massive changes in the world of retail and other businesses, and two World Wars, Jarrold has played a part in the lives of generations of Norfolk families.

The roots of the Jarrold business were in shopkeeping with a grocers and drapers opening in 1770.

Throughout the 19th and 20th centuries, Jarrold developed to become a leading printer and publisher, including the first edition of one of the most famous children’s books of all time, Anna Sewell’s Black Beauty, published by Jarrold in 1878.

Today the business is concentrated on retail with the flagship department store on London Street, Norwich, offering a unique and contemporary shopping experience over five floors, offering a stunning choice of products from fashion and beauty, home and lifestyle, books, stationery and toys, as well as four restaurants, a coffee bar and wine bar in addition to a well-stocked Food Hall.

  • Further stores include Art & Stationery on Exchange Street, Jarrold Sport and The Granary, as well as branches in Cromer and Wymondham.
