enjoying the fruits of harvest

Laura and Sam Robinson of Burn Valley Vineyard in North Norfolk are grateful to have got their 2022 grape harvest in, and are excited to share new releases ahead of the festive season.

Harvest always tends to leave you with happy smiles and aching backs! We are always so grateful to all who come to help with handpicking our grapes, and while it is hard work, fun times are had by all. We finished this years’ harvest in the last week of October with some good-looking grapes after our super warm summer. This year, we have processed 51 tonnes of grapes, and they are now in tanks and barrels, starting their process to become your tipple for next year. Thankfully, earlier in autumn we finished the extension of the winery, making more space for new tanks.

We have also been busy completing the new releases for this autumn/winter – a Bacchus Fume, a Pinot Noir, a Solaris Reserve, and a Solaris White Label, all from the 2021 harvest. They are tasting delicious, and we are really pleased with these wines.

Meanwhile, we are crossing everything that our first Blanc de Blanc is ready by Christmas – watch this space!

Despite the nights getting shorter, we are still open for our wine tastings, and between 1-18 December, on Thursdays to Sundays, we will hold winter tastings at midday. During the tasting, you will sample a minimum of five wines and have the option to pair with hot tapas, something we are very excited about, and we cannot wait to finalise the menu for you all.

Our not-so-secret secret suppers will also be back next month for two nights only, on 10 and 17 December. Prepared by our very own Steve, who is also responsible for the wine tasting menus, the secret supper is a six-course tasting menu priced at £70 per person with the option to add on a wine pairing at £30 per person. Our secret suppers are strictly limited to 30 people each evening, so make sure you get booked in. We will be throwing back to the good old days of 2019 by having one long, banquet-style table inside the winery. We will have heaters, but you can bring a blanket too if you like!

Another date is 2 December, when we will be holding a Burn Valley Wine Tasting at the fabulous Bakers & Larners in Holt. Contact them directly for more details and to reserve tickets.

We were thrilled to pick up some awards in the WineGB East competition, taking gold medals
for our Solaris White Label and Solar (Late Harvest), while our Regent Rosé took Bronze in the WineGB National competition.

Meanwhile, our Chalk Bed Reserve 2020 and Bacchus Reserve 2021 both were placed in the Top 100 wines in the UK. We are super proud of these achievements and will be heading to the award ceremony in London later this month. We also joined Oz Clarke and Olly Smith at their Three Wine Men event in London, which was great fun.

Finally, if you would like to become a member of our wine club, send us a message. We will be publishing details next April, and would hate for you to miss out – not least as you get free entry to our summer party that, next year, will be held on 19 August.

Have a fabulous festive season, and don’t forget to raise a glass of local wine amid your celebrations.
