For over 30 years now, we have been a part of your Christmas as, every year, people visit our shop in Swafield to order everything from their festive centrepieces to all the trimmings and much more besides! Since those early days, our offering has grown considerably, and you can now buy all you need for Christmas – including all the extras you didn’t know you needed! – at Tavern Tasty Meats.
One of our most popular items is our Christmas meat hamper, and this year we are giving you the option to go large! The regular hamper includes 5lb turkey breast, 3lb topside of beef, 3lb gammon joint, either smoked or unsmoked, 10 pigs in blankets, sage and onion stuffing and cranberry sauce, all for £85. For those wanting a whole free range turkey, you can replace the breast with a 4kg bird for a total cost of £150. These hampers are already selling well, so just give us a call to order yours!
We are getting into the Christmas spirit early with a late night Christmas event on 24 November. We will be open from 5-8pm, and the evening will include mulled wine, a chance to taste our new Christmas products, a gin tasting, barbeque, live music – and a raffle! It will be a great evening and we are really looking forward to welcoming everyone.
If you can’t make the night, don’t worry – we have plenty of produce to keep you and your families fed and watered into 2023. Meats aside, including homemade sausage rolls and pies, we also offer a wide range of local gins, wines, beer, chocolate, chutneys and mustards, and so much more. As we write this, the avian flu oubreak is a real concern for not only the farmers but also the families who enjoy turkey and goose on their Christmas table every year. East Anglia, particularly Norfolk, is the biggest producer of turkeys in the UK and much of the region is under a protection zone.
While this is a huge cause for concern, for many reasons, we are happy to confirm that we will still be able to offer free-range turkeys this festive season. Our suppliers are Peele’s Norfolk Black Turkeys, a family-run business established in 1880 and located in Thuxton, between Swaffham and Norwich. They, like many turkey farmers, are taking all the measures they can to protect their birds and ensure that we can have fresh and local turkeys on our table this Christmas.
