Description

Chef’s note

At this time of year as the blackberries are starting to ripen, what better excuse for a long evening walk to collect blackberries and create a lovely seasonal pudding. Serve with crème fraiche or our lovely Jersey ice cream. If you are feeling really indulgent, you can have this for breakfast with our thick, rich Jersey yoghurt!

Ingredients
  • 400 grams blackberries (or mix 200g blackberries with 200g sliced Bramley apples)
  • 65 grams granulated sugar
  • 30 grams groud almonds
  • 170 grams plain flour
  • 80 grams Old Hall Farm unsalted butter (chopped in to small pieces)
  • 75 grams light brown soft sugar
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/365°F/gas mark 4.

  2. Place the fruit into a baking dish and sprinkle with the granulated sugar.

  3. Put the flour, sugar, and ground
almonds in a mixing bowl. Add the
butter and with your fingers, rub
in the butter until it resembles
    fine breadcrumbs.

  4. Sprinkle the crumble mix over the fruit and gently press down.

  5. Bake in the oven for about 35 minutes
    or until golden brown.

Note

Old Hall Farm is a cow with calf dairy and farm shop specialising in raw Jersey milk, milkshakes, cream, butter, yoghurt, and much more from our own grass-fed Jersey cows. Our ‘Jersey goddesses’ are allowed to keep their calves with them rather than weaning at birth, usually staying together for six-to-eight months but this can be longer depending on the pair.

The Mayhew family have farmed in Woodton since the mid-1940s, starting out with a small suckler cow herd, chickens for egg production, and pig rearing, as well as farming over 500 acres of arable land.

While on a family holiday in 2016, Stuart and Rebecca Mayhew spent time on a friend’s dairy unit in Scotland and fell in love with the idea of having their own herd of Jersey cattle. Their first cow, the original Jersey Goddess Freya, arrived in November 2016 and they haven’t looked back since.

Everything we do is influenced by our love for Jersey cows. We use simple artisan processes for all of our products and believe in quality over quantity.

Our farm shop is open every day from 8am until 6pm.
